To install Recon X, you are required to "sideload" the application onto your device.
This is a process of providing specific applications the correct permissions to install the correct files, similar to how you would on the Google Play Store. Whilst this method is reliable, you may encounter some issues completing this process.
For full instructions on how to download Recon X please visit the help article here.
If you are having issues installing Recon X, please continue reading.
If you are having any issues downloading the app, please check the following known errors that you may encounter below:
Download button isn't working?
If the Download button doesn't start your download when you tap it and you may need to refresh your cache on your phones browser. You can do this by going to your Settings, then into your App settings and find the browser app you are using. Then open it and tap "Clear Cache". Restart your device and try to download the app again.
If that doesn't work for you, you can try long tapping onto the download button and copying the URL and pasting that directly into your browser to kickstart the app downloading for you.
Please note that if you have a pop up blocker, you may need to turn this off and refresh the page if the download doesn't start.
Parsing Error?
You might get an error that pops up with "Parsing Error" when trying to download the app, simply ensure you have any current versions of the app removed and delete anything Recon related from your downloads folder. Go to your Settings, then into your App settings and find the browser app you are using. Then open it and tap "Clear Cache". Restart your device and try to download the app again.
Unknown Sources?
Make sure you have gone to your device's Settings menu, tap on 'Security' or 'Applications' (depending on what device you have), and make sure the 'Unknown Sources' box has been checked. This will allow installation of apps from sources other than the Google Play Store, which is relevant to this app. Feel free to uncheck this box after you have downloaded and installed the app.
App not downloading? Try using WiFi
If the files aren't downloading, make sure you have full 3G or 4G signal if you're out and about (mobile data charges may apply). If that's still not working, get yourself to an area with strong WiFi and try again.
Check where the files have been downloaded
Because there are lots of different kinds of Android devices, there are lots of different places that the files could have been downloaded to. Try looking in the following folders on your device:
- File Manager
- File Command
- Downloads
- Notifications
- Dropbox
If you're using a Motorola Android phone (for example, DROID TURBO on Verizon), you may not have a file manager or downloads folder. To open files from Unknown Sources, you will need to download a file manager app from the Google Play Store.
The app crashes immediately when opened
If the application crashes upon opening, please ensure that you have at least 2GB of storage available on your device when attempting to open the device. Please note that if the device doesn't have enough storage, Recon X may not have enough storage to run. Please note that if you are on Android 7 or below or a tablet, your device may no longer be supported and as such, you will likely encounter bugs or be unable to open the app at all.
Have more than one downloaded file? Tap the first one
If you've accidentally downloaded two lots of Recon X files, make sure you tap on the file that downloaded first and delete any duplicates.
Still not working?
If the file still won't install, delete it and try downloading it again. It could be that your download was interrupted (if you lost signal, for example) and you only partially downloaded the file.
If all else fails...
If you're able to, take a screen capture of any error messages you get, and email support@recon.com with your Android device make, model number and tell us what you were doing before the error presented itself. We'll take a look into the issue for you and get back to you as soon as we can.
