Accessing Recon is easy using a Progressive Web Application (PWA). This breakdown details browser installation and troubleshooting tips.
Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) are apps built and derived from webpages that provide a native experience similar to an app installed from a storefront like the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Installing a PWA is straight-forward but as browsers can be slightly different, you can find specific instructions for your preferred browser below.
If your preferred browser is not listed below, please also find our FAQs for installing PWAs below:
Troubleshooting FAQs
Q: I am not using any of the browsers listed, how do I install the PWA?
A: Most modern mobile browsers follow a similar pattern. Look for a "Share", "Menu", or "Tools" icon near the address bar. Within that menu, look for phrases like "Add to Home Screen," "Install App," or "Add to Phone." If you cannot find these options, we recommend using Google Chrome (Android) or Safari (iOS) for the most reliable installation.
Q: I use a privacy browser (e.g. Brave, DuckDuckGo etc), can I install the PWA with it?
A: Privacy browsers regularly purge certain browser information used to retain your log in sessions. Whilst your privacy browser may allow you to install the PWA, to avoid technical issues such as frequent logging out, we highly recommend using your default browser to complete the installation process.
Q: I use a browser in Incognito / inPrivate mode, can I install the PWA with it?
A: Whilst your browser may allow you to do this, we highly recommend that you do not install the PWA whilst using Incognito / inPrivate mode. Recon requires certain browser information to retain your log in session, which these modes regularly delete. To ensure that you have a smooth experience, we recommend using your default browser to complete the installation process.
Q: I use Private Spaces (Android), can I install the PWA to my Private Space?
A: No, most Android Private Spaces only allow you to install applications that are housed on the Google Play Store or APK files. Due to the large volume of unique Android Operating Systems, this may be possible on certain devices but results may vary.
Q: Why don’t I see the “Install” or “Add to Homescreen” option in my Browser menu?
A: The "Install" or "Add to Home Screen" option typically only appears if you haven't already installed the app. Check your app drawer or home screens to see if the Recon icon is already there. Additionally, ensure you are specifically on the main login or landing page (recon.com). when you try to install the PWA. If you are deep within a specific sub-page, the browser might not recognise the site as a PWA.
Q: If I delete my browser, will I lose the Recon PWA?
A: As the PWA relies on the underlying engine of your browser to function, deleting or disabling that browser will cause the PWA to stop working. It is recommended that you use your device’s default browser to install the PWA as this typically can’t be uninstalled. If you have switched browsers, we recommend re-installing the PWA using your new browser to ensure continued access.
Q: Can I use the PWA on my Desktop or Laptop?
A: Yes! If you are using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a PC or Mac, you will often see an "Install" icon (resembling a small computer screen with an arrow) on the right side of the URL address bar. Clicking this will "dock" Recon to your taskbar or applications folder for quick access. You can also locate this under “Apps” on Microsoft Edge or “Cast, Save and Share” for Google Chrome.
