Recon offers several ways to access our platform, ensuring you stay connected regardless of your preferred device. You can choose from a standard web browser experience, a Progressive Web App (PWA), or our dedicated iOS app.

Web Browser
This is the simplest way to use Recon. Simply visit www.recon.com in your browser of choice. This method is compatible with any modern PC, Smartphone or tablet using the preferred web browser of choice.

Dedicated App (iOS only)
For members using Apple devices who prefer a native experience, a dedicated app is available. This version is optimised specifically for iOS, providing smooth performance and integrated mobile features. Whilst this version can be downloaded from the Apple App Store as normal, it remains subject to storefront policies, such as specific image content restrictions.

Progressive Web App (Recommended)
You can now install Recon directly from your mobile browser, bypassing traditional app stores. This method is the best of both worlds, offering a mobile-friendly version of the Web Browser version, with all the utility of the Dedicated App version, including push notifications and GPS usage. PWAs allow us to provide a more consistent experience across a wider range of devices and to offer features that may be limited by storefront policies, such as specific image content restrictions on iOS devices.

FAQs
Q: Can I install Recon from the Google Play Store?
A: Due to ongoing censorship issues, Recon was removed from the Google Play Store. There are no plans to return to the Google Play Store for the foreseeable future.
Q: Can I view explicit images if I am using an iPhone?
A: Recon members that are accessing the platform using a Web Browser or the Progressive Web App (PWA) will be able to view all explicit imagery (subject to a successful Age Assurance check). Publicly available explicit imagery on the Dedicated App that is available from the Apple App Store will continue to be restricted regardless of whether a successful Age Assurance check has been completed or not.
Q: Can I use any browser to install a PWA?
A: Whilst you can technically use any browser to install a PWA if it allows you, we highly recommend using Google Chrome if you are on an Android device for the smoothest experience. Please note that we will not be performing testing on niche and obscure browsers, but have provided instructions for those that our members typically use.
Q: Can I keep using the old Recon app?
A: No, you will no longer use the old Recon app to log into your Recon account due to lack of backwards compatibility in the data provided by newer features. The existing Recon app will be turned off at the point of switch over and all users will be informed that they will need to use the new version going forward.
Q: Do I need to create a new account to use the PWA or the new iOS app?
A: No, you do not need to create a new Recon account to use the new PWA or iOS app. All your account details are stored on our servers and you will be able to log in using your existing Recon credentials. All your profile information, messages and settings will synchronise automatically across all platforms, whichever method you choose to access the platform.
Q: What is the benefit of using the Progressive Web App (PWA) over the standard Web Browser or dedicated iOS app?
A: The PWA is a mobile-friendly version of Recon that combines both the web browser and the dedicated iOS app experiences, whilst removing content restrictions that are imposed by the Apple App Store. The PWA mirrors the features of the Web Browser version, whilst still offering native dedicated app features such as push notifications and GPS.
Q: How do I update the Progressive Web App (PWA)?
A: Every time you launch the app, you typically will be accessing the latest version of Recon. You will never need to manually download an update from a store. If the page you are viewing is out of date due to an update being released, you will be prompted to simply reload the page to update to the latest version.
Q: I am having trouble with the “Add to Home Screen” button. What should I do?
A: Ensure you are using the native browser for your device (Safari for iOS, Chrome for Android) as third-party browsers often have restricted permissions for installing PWAs. If the option still doesn't appear, please refer to our ‘Installing a Progressive Web Application & Troubleshooting’ Help Article for instructions and troubleshooting.
Q: I followed the respective instructions and nothing happened. Why didn’t it install?
A: This is often due to a temporary browser glitch or restrictive device settings. First, ensure you are not in Incognito or Private Browsing mode. Secondly, check if your home screen is "locked" in your device settings, which prevents new icons from being added. Finally, try clearing your browser cache and restarting the browser and device before attempting the installation again. If this still fails, please submit a request to contact Customer Support.
